Pleasant Grove school was built in 1869 on land located half way between the Jim McNiel and Colburn homes, on the road between Lakeport and Upper Lake. It was a big building, located in a grove of large oak trees. By that time it was the only school in the area, and had 72 school-age children in the district. Even adults, wanting an education, attended this school.

In 1882 John Burger deeded an acre from the Northeast corner of his property to the school district. A small, but better schoolhouse was built there.

When the school closed, the land returned to the original owners and the buildings were torn down after a few years. J. N. Borroughs was the first teacher.
